ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska's new attorney general has a colorful background and a reputation for promoting gun rights.
Palin today named Wayne Anthony Ross, a current director and former vice president of the National Rifle Association.
He's also is 2-time candidate for governor who got fund-raising help from rocker Ted Nugent in 2002.
Ross and former Governor Walter Hickel served as campaign co-chairmen for Palin in her successful 2006 bid for governor.
As a lawyer, Ross represented Palin before she was governor as she was blowing the whistle on ethics violations by Alaska GOP chairman Randy Ruedrich, a fellow member of the state Oil and Gas Commission.
Ross replaces Talis Colberg, who resigned February 10th.
Ross faces confirmation hearings and a vote by the legislature.
Wasilla Senator Charlie Huggins says Ross is a good friend with strong community values.
Democratic Representative Mike Doogan of Anchorage says he expects the legislature will follow the tradition of allowing the governor to appoint the people she wants.
