Governor makes UA regents appointment

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Gov. Sarah Palin has appointed Ashton Compton to the University of Alaska Board of Regents.

The 11-member board governs the statewide University of Alaska system. By law, 1 of the members of the board is a full-time university student.

Palin has selected Compton, a junior political science major at the University of Alaska Fairbanks who was born in Fairbanks. Compton has worked as a program assistant for UAF Student Organizations since 2008.

She has also worked as a page and assistant sergeant-at-arms for the Alaska State Legislature from 2005 to 2007.
