ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy unveiled a pilot Web site on Tuesday
It forecasts the magnitude of the upcoming fire season for Interior Alaska.
The center's Web-based wildfire forecast shows the region is right now at moderate for the potential of wildfires.
"We have worked with the scientists at the Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service to develop this and provide them a tool that will be useful to them," said Sarah Trainor, coordinator for the center.
The forecasting tool does not make predictions about the regions where fires will occur, nor does it predict what time of the season fires will occur.
