ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Living in the land of the midnight sun has its perks. One unique way to spend a long summer night in Alaska is to hit the golf course.
Just ask Danny Graham. He's not at all shy about hitting the greens to make his buddies green with envy.
"I have golfing friends back in the Lower 48 and I always remind them that I fish until one or two in the morning and I golf until one or two in the morning," said Graham at the Anchorage Golf Course Saturday.
In most states, tee times end before dinner. Here, you can forget that mad rush to get to the course in time.
"Here you can get off work at 5, go home, eat dinner, spend time with the family, then go out at 8 and get a full 18 in," said Bryan Stenehjem, Anchorage Golf Course Marshall.
And, if the weather holds, a grand view.
"On a sunny evening we have a great view here -- view of the city, view of McKinley," said Stenehjem.
And that's not all.
"We just, back two holes, had a black bear walk right across the fairway right in front of us," said Graham. "You can't go anywhere else and golf and have a black bear running across the fairway in front of you."
Midnight golf in the land of the midnight sun -- it's a fine way to end an Anchorage summer day.
Late-night tee times are available until about the end of July.
