WASILLA, Alaska -- The Wasilla Chamber of Commerce's executive director will resign her position.

Cheryl Metiva announced Thursday she will step down July 17.

Metiva came under fire two months ago after allegations she misused chamber funds.

In a letter to the current board of directors, Metiva noted she cannot perform her duties as executive director because of assumptions and allegations covered by the media.

Metiva wrote she did not publicly defend herself because she wanted to "assist the chamber in a positive manner."
