Associated Press - September 18, 2009 12:54 PM ET

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - Avast, me hearties! The University of Alaska Fairbanks and the local community are the official site for Talk Like a Pirate Day on Saturday.

Co-founder Mark "Cap'n Slappy" Summers is making public appearances and participating in events Friday and Saturday on and off campus.

He'll conduct a pirate linguistics class with students and take part in a live on-stage radio show Saturday on KSUA, the UAF radio station, at Salisbury Theatre, followed by a dance. Members of the public are encouraged to attend dressed as pirates.
