ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A party in the area of Muldoon Road and 36th Avenue turned deadly early Sunday morning as multiple shots were fired, leaving a teenage girl dead.

The name of the deceased is Desirae Douglas, 17, police said later Sunday morning.

Police received initial reports of a rowdy gathering around 1 a.m., but the event was not immediately investigated because of other priorities. At approximately 2:15 a.m. shots were fired.

The Anchorage Police Department's Major Crime Scene unit was still interviewing witnesses as of 5:30 a.m., and 36th Avenue was still closed as of that time.

Police said there were two separate crime scenes -- the first being where the body was found near the intersection of 36th and Muldoon, and the second farther south at Pioneer Drive where a potential suspect is said to have fled from a car.

A K9 unit was dispatched to search for the suspect, but no one had been apprehended as of 5:30.

Douglas's family arrived on scene to identify her body, but APD did not release her name until about 11 a.m.

APD released the following statement just before 6 a.m.:

"Anchorage Police officers responded to a large party on the 8000 block of East 36th at which multiple shots had been fired. Upon arrival officers discovered that a teenaged female had been hit by gunfire and died at the scene.

"Police closed East 36th Avenue between Muldoon Road and Sycamore Loop in order to conduct their investigation. No suspects are in custody and the Anchorage Police Department Patrol, Homicide Unit and Major Crime Scene Unit are continuing the investigation into this homicide."
