ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Sen. Mark Begich touched base with the people of Anchorage in a town hall meeting Friday night on health care reform.
The auditorium at Bartlett Hall was at maximum capacity and organizers had to turn away some people who wanted to attend, but everyone was allowed to leave a written comment for the senator.
Begich expects health care costs to double over the next five to six years, and believes the cost of inaction could be too much.
"I'm wondering why we can't do something for those 15 percent and let us that have worked and have stuff that we're OK with, kind of leave us alone and let us go on," said Brendan Carpenter, who attended the event.
Plenty of security was on hand after several unconfirmed reports of individuals encouraging others to bring guns to the town hall.
Police issued a press release earlier Friday reminding people it is illegal to have deadly weapons on school grounds.
