ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- An Anchorage pediatrician is headed to the White House for a special meeting with the president on health care.
Dr. Monique Karaganis was chosen to go to Washington, D.C. after her patient's mother put her name in the running.
The White House has invited one doctor from each state to participate in Monday's discussion.
Karaganis says she is honored to go and hopes she will get the chance to speak to President Obama about health care issues in Alaska.
She thinks Alaska is a fortunate state because health care has been well-funded in the past, but she wants to make sure Alaskans continue to have quality health care available to them.
"If we take care of the next generation, we're actually investing in what Alaska's going to become," Karaganis said. "And so creating any barriers to health care is unfortunate."
Karaganis operates Polar Pediatrics in Anchorage, which opened just this summer.
