Small plane missing in Denali National Park

Associated Press - October 15, 2009 4:14 PM ET

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A search is under way for an overdue aircraft inside Denali National Park with a pilot and a wolf biologist on board.

Denali National Park spokeswoman Kris Fister says seven aircraft are looking for the white and blue Cessna 185 with biologist Gordon Haber and pilot Daniel McGregor.

The plane took off at about noon Wednesday and was supposed to return by nightfall. The Park Service was notified about midnight that the plane was overdue.

Fister says McGregor and Haber filed a flight plan indicating they were looking for wolf packs. Fister says the search is focusing on the north side of the park because that is where the wolves tend to be.

Haber has tracked Denali's wolf packs for many years and is familiar with the park.
