ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska novelist and New York Times bestselling author Dana Stabenow's stories, from the series "Kate Shugak, Alaska P.I.," will be seen in a forthcoming TV series.

On her Web site, Stabenow says Evergreen Films has purchased the screen rights to the books and, according to her wishes, the series will be shot in Alaska.

"As you have all heard me say too many times to count, I was determined to sell the screen rights only to someone who would shoot the series in Alaska," Stabenow writes on her site, stabenow.com.

In a press release, Evergreen cites Alaska's tax laws for filmmakers as an incentive for increased production in the state.

"The ability to create a realistic portrayal of Alaska will be critical to communicating the unique Alaska mindset that Kate Shugak embodies," Mike Devlin, a partner in Evergreen Films, said.
