ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- If you're celebrating into the wee hours and plan on drinking, a new service can get you and your car home safely.

The Anchorage Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant and Retailers Association, or CHARR, teamed up with local taxi services to create the Off-The-Road program.

The idea is simple: if you're out at a bar or restaurant and you've had too many drinks, ask your server if that bar is one of the 27 restaurants that participate in the program.

If they do, they will call a taxi and two cabs will be sent. One is for you, while the other cab driver will drive your car home for you. Best of all, it's completely free.

It's a convenient service for the customer, but also aims at reducing the number of drunk drivers on the road -- especially on evenings like Halloween.

"It's a way to address one of the causes that people drive drunk," said CHARR President John Pattee. "And it's not a justifiable cause but it's really there, and that is that people need their car."

Pattee says that in about a month, the program will switch from taxi cabs to a limousine company to help reduce wait times.
