ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Good talent can get you all the way to the World Series -- but you don't have to be able to play baseball. A Soldotna woman proved that Sunday, when she sang the national anthem before Game 4 of the World Series.
Thirty-four-year-old Jody Johnson, an Air Force staff sergeant, grew up in Soldotna and now lives in Philadelphia. She was originally asked to sing "God Bless America," but after a change of plans yesterday she ended up singing "The Star-Spangled Banner."
This was Johnson's second time singing at a World Series game.
"They asked me if I would sing again, and I was really honored that they had called me back because it's not common to get to go to back-to-back series for the team," Johnson said. "And I just figured they would call somebody else and give somebody else the opportunity."
Johnson says the only thing she was nervous about was walking out onto the grass in high heels.
