ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Elementary students in the Anchorage School District began receiving swine flu vaccines Monday.
ASD had originally scheduled the H1N1 vaccination clinic for all students, but last week a shortage of vaccine doses forced the district to postpone the clinic for middle and high school students until December.
Four schools began their H1N1 clinics on Monday. The district says it's prepared to give out about 4,000 vaccines this week.
It says some students are bringing in permission slips the day of the clinics, so it's hard to determine how the demand and supply play out.
A school nurse says about one-third of students are getting the vaccinations at Airport Heights Elementary, and that the clinics are running along smoothly.
"We've got some great staff keeping them busy while they're waiting and the nurses are excellent, they've got experience giving immunizations, and so far we haven't had a single child that we haven't been able to do," said Pat Brown.
Likewise the Municipality of Anchorage was forced to postpone its first swine flu vaccination clinic scheduled for later this week.
Officials say both of the postponed clinics will be rescheduled. Below is the schedule of the elementary vaccination clinics around the school district.
