ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Tight money at City Hall could mean red ink problems at the Anchorage School District.
Superintendent Carol Comeau warned school board members Monday night that the district could be facing a funding gap of $15.4 million in next year's budget.
Comeau is asking board members for ideas on what to cut to make up the difference, even though she's not sure exactly how much the district will be getting from the city and the state.
"I am very hesitant to not be conservative on these assumptions because there's too many unknowns," Comeau said.
The Assembly last Tuesday cautioned the school district that funding next year will stay the same as this year, and the only extra money that might be available is for services that the city used to pay for, such as school resource officers.
The school board will meet again next Monday to talk about the budget situation.
