ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Police continue to work the scene here at the 500 block of San Juan Circle. Officers say 22-year-old Nicolas Showers-Glover entered a home and began shooting. Two people were shot and an unidentified woman died en route to the hospital, becoming the city's sixth homicide victim.

An unidentified man was taken to Providence Alaska Medical Center with gunshot wounds. Anchorage police and a State Trooper helicopter searched the neighborhood for two-and-a-half hours in an attempt to locate Showers, who officers say fled after the shooting.

Some Clark Middle School students who had just gotten off the bus near here saw what happened.

"Things are changing obviously, we have a baby not breathing call going on at the same time, and 17 other calls holding on cue at dispatch," said APD Lt. Paul Honeman.

Sabrina Moore witnessed the shooting's aftermath.

"A whole bunch of cops started coming and they started bringing guys out who were bleeding and a girl who was bleeding all over her face," Moore said.

As this happened, nearby elementary schools were just letting out. Willawaw, Wonder Park, and Ptarmigan Elementary schools were put on "Stay Put" mode for several hours, which kept students inside their respective schools. That holding has since been lifted.

Police ultimately determined that the suspect had escaped from the immediate neighborhood and called off the door-to-door manhunt and car checks. Showers-Glover remains at large.
