ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The next regular legislative session is six months away, but Sen. Hollis French already has launched a Web site touting his bill for universal health care.
The site, healthyalaskans.com, includes downloadable bill documents, answers to frequently-asked questions and links to health care reform efforts in other states.
So far, French's bill has gotten little attention in the Legislature.
"It was actually more complex than we thought to draft the law and we spent a lot of time getting it ready. And once we debuted it, it was close to the end of the session, and frankly we were still learning about it, so I think we're all poised now to have some hearings in the fall and to be able to gallop the bill through the Legislature next year," said French, D-Anchorage.
Senate Health Chair Bettye Davis said the bill needs to be analyzed.
"We probably will take up hearings on that bill next year, but in a process like that, it would take more than one term for us to get that passed," said Davis, D-Anchorage.
