NOME, Alaska -- Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski said she's known Idaho Sen. Larry Craig before she went to the U.S. Senate in 2002. And she says she's "just heartsick" over Craig's situation.

Craig was arrested June 11 in a Minneapolis airport men's room after an undercover officer observed conduct that he said was "often used by persons communicating a desire to engage in sexual conduct." He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Murkowski says given the admission of guilt, a Senate review should be conducted.

Murkowski is in Nome today with fellow Sen. Ted Stevens, who are accompanying U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings in Alaska.

Stevens was asked about Craig, but said his attorneys have advised him not to make any comments about any investigations right now. Stevens is the focus of an FBI probe into corruption.

U.S. Rep. Don Young spokeswoman Meredith Kenny says Young, who also is under investigation, is traveling in northern Alaska and not immediately available by telephone or e-mail.
