ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Okmok Volcano came alive again Saturday.

The Alaska Volcano Observatory said the ash plume from the volcano on Umnak Island is reaching 30,000 feet. It could increase in altitude if activity continues.

The plume of ash is drifting to the southeast, and the sulfur oxide gases from the original eruption last weekend are now stretching as far as the Pacific Northwest of the Lower 48.

The AVO raised the Volcano Alert Level to "warning" and the warning level for pilots in the area to "red."

They also warned that the immediate vicinity of Umnak Island should be completely avoided.
