ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A one-year suspension of the state motor fuel tax kicked in Monday, bringing a little relief from sky-high gas prices.
A number of gas stations in Anchorage instantly lowered their prices by the full 8 cents of the gas tax.
Drivers say it's a welcome break, even if it's just a small step.
"I was pretty excited, I think it's a good practical way to help everyone out," said driver Vajra Miller. "Hopefully things will get better. It's exciting to see the prices drop even a little bit when you're passing by."
The gas tax suspension is part of a series of bills including a $1,200 energy rebate signed into law last week.
