Caslon Hatch joined the Channel Two News team in November 2012 as a Multimedia Journalist for the "Morning Edition." She comes to Alaska from Des Moines, Iowa where she was born and raised. After studying Political Science at Iowa State University in 2008, she transferred to Columbia College in Chicago to pursue a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Caslon got her first start in television through an internship at WHO-TV in Des Moines, where she had the opportunity to learn more about the television news business from the very same people she grew up watching on the evening news. Caslon says those mentors inspired her to officially enter the profession of broadcast news, and in the fall of 2011, she landed an internship at WMAQ, the NBC affiliate in Chicago. There, she worked with the station's Emmy-award winning health news team.
Caslon's education at Columbia College included extensive on-air experience for the school's journalism department. She anchored, reported and produced Columbia College's live broadcast, "NEWSBEAT." In addition, she worked as Director and Web Content Producer for the school’s feature program, "Metro Minutes." Caslon hosted, edited and directed a regular webcast that tackled the topic of politics in Chicago and around the world.
Prior to her arrival in Alaska, Caslon admits she'd had never been West of Nebraska. She contends, however, that she thrives in cold weather, and her hometown of Des Moines is certainly known for its fair share.
In her free time, you can find Caslon running along one of Anchorage's many trails or discovering new venues to eat around town. She says she looks forward to learning all about the great history that Alaska claims, and she's incredibly excited about her new role at Channel Two... and getting her own chance to help tell Alaska's story . So if you have any story ideas for Caslon, please send them her way!
