With over 20 years behind and in front of cameras, Robert has a colorful background in the entertainment industry. He has been a member of Actors Equity Association and is a Screen Actors Guild member. He was theatrically trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre under Sanford Miesner and performed in numerous stage performances, including off-Broadway productions of the "New Moon" and "Mikado." His television credits include appearances on "Magnum P.I." and "Kojak." and can be seen promoting Alaska at www.goanchorage.net
Robert Forgit has been an accomplished broadcast meteorologist and reporter in Anchorage, Alaska since 1993. He holds a bachelor of science degree in marine science from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a certificate in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. He has earned his Television Seals of Approval from both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. In the past, Robert has produced two award-winning weekly science series "Science 2" and a summer boating safety series "Safety Afloat." Robert was the "Morning Edition" co-anchor with Sheila Balistreri from 1998 to 2001.
As a Coast Guard Reservist, Robert's broadcasting career was put on hold in the months after September 11, when he was recalled to active duty to serve in the position of Chief of Port Security for Western Alaska at the Marine Safety Office in Anchorage, Alaska and, then, served on active duty with 17th Coast Guard District in Anchorage. Captain Forgit has returned to Reserve duty and currently is the Deputy Chief of Staff for Coast Guard Pacific Area. Robert continues to serve in emergency management and homeland security as the Alaska Area Manager for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region X.
Robert is proud to be a member of the Channel 2 weather team and can occasionally be seen filling in for the team.
