Sheila Balistreri is the producer and anchor of the "Morning Edition." She has been with Channel 2 News since 1994.
Sheila is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles(UCLA). She is also a military veteran, having spent three years in the Women's Army Corps during the Vietnam War, in which she was a singer and a dancer with the 3rd Army Soldier Show out of Fort McPherson, Georgia.
Sheila has been married for 29 years to Jerry Balistreri, who is an educator. They have two grown children, Nick and Beth.
Nick lives and works in Southern California and Beth is a registered nurse at Providence Hospital in Anchorage.
Sheila started her 35-plus year journalism career in Bismarck, North Dakota, at KFYR-TV, then went on to work in Salt Lake City, Utah as news director for KKAT-102-FM and KCPX Power 99 Radio. She also spent time working at KSL television in Salt Lake.
Sheila and her family moved to Anchorage in 1989 where she worked in both radio and television as the news director for KFQD radio and the arts and entertainment reporter for KTUU.
She has won numerous awards, including four Edward R. Murrow regional awards, Goldie awards from the Alaska Broadcasters Association, AP awards and awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.
Her most recent awards for "Best Newscast, Television" and "Best Presentation, Television" come from the Alaska Professional Communicators, previously known as the Alaska Press Women.
Those entries were forwarded to the National Federation of Press Women, and for the past four years, including just recently in 2010, Sheila has won first place in those categories at the national level. In January of 2011, Alaska Professional Communicators honored her with its Gold Nugget Award for professional and business accomplishments.
In April 2013 was honored by the Alaska Veterans Organization for Women with an "Achievement Award."
Sheila has done community service in Anchorage for years for various non-profits, including the American Diabetes Association, the Salvation Army, Bean's Cafe, the Business & Professional Women's Club and many, many more.
