ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
More than 186,000 voters in the Anchorage area have registered to vote in Alaska's primary elections on Tuesday.

The polls open Aug. 28 at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. For a full list of polling place locations in the state, click here.

Election officials advise voters to bring valid identification, which include a signed driver's license as well as signed voter, state or military ID cards, a passport, hunting or fishing licenses, or other current or valid photo identification. Other forms of identification that include a voter's name and current address will also be accepted, including a current utility bill or pay check, a government check or bank statement, or some other government-issued document.

Due to redistricting after the 2010 U.S. Census, 59 of the state Legislature's 60 positions -- including every seat except for that of Sen. Dennis Egan (D-Juneau), a 2009 interim appointee who replaced Sen. Kim Elton -- are up for re-election.

Voters will decide on two ballot measures, including one which would allow cities or boroughs to reduce residential property taxes, as well as one that would resurrect the Alaska Coastal Management Program.

In addition to local politicians vying for seats statewide, there are five Democrats trying to make the cut in the U.S. House race to face off in November against long-serving Rep. Don Young.

The Associated Press reports Young said he knows the state "better than anyone else," and wants to stay in Congress "as long as I've got the inspiration and the fire to do this job."

The Democratic candidates are Debra Chesnut, Sharon Cissna, Matt Moore, Doug Urquidi and Frank Vondersaar.
