Mao Tosi is a first-time candidate vying for a seat on the Anchorage Assembly.
A contentious three-way race pits Tosi against incumbent Adam Trombley and former state Rep. Pete Petersen.
The 37-year-old is a native of East Anchorage who attended East High School before playing football at the University of Idaho and for the Arizona Cardinals.
He returned home after an injury cut his professional football career short, and he has since focused on family, community issues and his job as a manager of the Northway Mall.
Getting city services better connected to residents district-wide is one of Tosi's reasons for entering the race, as is the need for more of a focus on public safety.
