( Baltimore Sun photo by Kenneth K. Lam / August 8, 2012 ) Homegrown heroics: Rookie pitcher Steve Johnson wasn't even on anybody's radar until the Orioles were forced to warm up projected Wednesday starter Tommy Hunter for possible duty in the 14-inning marathon. No sweat. He rushed up from Triple-A Norfolk to make the spot start and delivered a terrific effort that included a scoreless first inning in which all 12 pitches he threw were strikes. What a nice effort for the former St. Paul's star, and it came on the 23rd anniversary of his dad's first major league victory as a member of the Orioles in 1989. |
