( Baltimore Sun photo / November 26, 2000 ) There are plenty of strong candidates at fullback, from Sam Gash to Alan Ricard to Ovie Mughelli to Le'Ron McClain. The nod goes to Gash for two main reasons. In 2000, he was not only Lewis' lead blocker, but also was a mentor to the 21-year-old prodigy. The next season, when Lewis sustained a season-ending knee injury in training camp, Gash was a pivotal part in the Ravens' ranking 11th in the NFL in rushing with the likes of Terry Allen and Jason Brookins carrying the ball. Gash didnt make the Pro Bowl with the Ravens like he did in Buffalo, but he made an impact on the Ravens running game that lasted after he left the team. |
