The quick emergence of rookie Xavier Avery (picture) as a capable outfielder and some-time leadoff man has given the Orioles a big boost at a time when they could have really been at a loss with the absence of Nolan Reimold. Avery batted .357 last week and joined with Adam Jones (4 home runs, 8 RBIs) and Nick Markakis (2 HR, 5 RBIs) to drive the Orioles offense. Maybe the advance scouts will catch up with him, but he has already made a big impression and gained some very valuable experience at the big league level ... and who says it can't continue? |
