Snakeheads spread in VA creeks

A team from the U.S. FIsh and Wildlife Service, and the Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries have spent the past week in the Dogue Creek, near Rte 1, collecting young snakehead fish by using anode probes to stun them. As they scoop up the snakeheads, they sometimes catch other fish in the nets as well. Today they collected 45 snakeheads, none longer than 12 inches, either born this year or last. The snakefish had been living in the tidal flats at the confluence of Dogue Creek and Potomac River, and seem to have moved upstream, according to John Odenkirk, a biologist with VA Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries.
