Q. Tell us a little about your history?
A. Amy Engelhart: Photo-X-Press originated at Jewett Drug Co. in 1990. We did wholesale photo finishing and equipment sales and service. In 2006, we purchased the photo division from Jewett Drug/McKesson and moved to our current building to start a retail store.
Q. What products or services do you offer?
A. One-hour film processing; digital photo kiosk; custom gift items such as mugs, coasters, cutting boards, mouse pads, digital retouching, custom announcements, frames, albums, batteries and film. We use Kodak paper.
Q. What makes your business unique?
A. We are not just a photo shop. We offer a professional portrait studio for photos of children, seniors, pets and families. We also have custom video transfers to DVD. We serve more than 150 customers in South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota for wholesale photo finishing, supplies, equipment service and sales.
Q. What do you specialize in?
A. Helping customers create and preserve their memories. Customer service is important to us.
Q. How many employees do you have?
A. We have six to eight employees with additional help during the holidays.
Q. What are you most proud of?
A. Being a locally owned one-hour photo shop and keeping our prices competitive. Our 4-by-6 photos are just 19 cents. We are also proud of our helpful employees.
Q. What advice would you give someone who wants to start a business?
A. Choose your location well, and treat people right. And remember word of mouth is your best form of advertising.
Q. Goals for the future?
A. Staying current with all of the digital photo imaging changes, from new digital cameras to smartphones to iPads. We can make prints from almost all digital media.
