Bean’s Café has partnered up with Groupon Grassroots for the next few days for the launch of the online coupon’s philanthropic arm in Alaska.
The Chicago based company launched an offshoot fundraiser site to help non-profit organizations, instead of offering deals on restaurants or products and services.
The difference with the spin-off fundraiser is that when people donate, then another company will match those funds up to a certain amount, and all of the donations will go to organization in need.
Bean’s Café is the first non-profit in Alaska to partner with online coupon site.
The non-profit said with 38 donations the organization can purchase 150 bowls and 150 spoons for its kitchen, and it surpassed that goal within the first day of the offering. By Tuesday afternoon, over 180 people took part in the initial deal.
The Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union said it will match up to a $500 total in donations.
The campaign will end Sunday, August 26th and for more information click here.
The KTUU Morning Edition will air a segment on the partnership Wednesday morning, August 22 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.
