How did you get into your business, and what motivated you to start it? I grew up working with my father, who owned a home-remodeling business in Hagerstown. I was exposed to every aspect of building and remodeling homes, from plumbing and electrical to framing and roofing. I did it all. I joined theU.S. Navyafter high school and was accepted to a very small, specialized team of individuals who performed disassembly and maintenance on Navy and Marine Corps nuclear warheads, which required the highest level of attention to detail and compliance to very strict standards. I served on numerous inspection teams and enjoyed the inspection process. After retiring from the Navy in 2000, I served as a project manager for a defense contractor in Virginia and then wound up in the transportation industry as a manager. I found myself wanting to start my own business, and inspections seemed to be a perfect fit for me. So I studied, then attended classroom instruction with one of the nation’s largest home-inspection training companies, received my certification and passed the national exam. I chose “Patriot” for the name of my business not only because of my military service, but because of my love for and support of our country.
