One of three new wind turbines on Pillar Mountain overlooking Kodiak will start rotating next week.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror reports it will take several weeks before the turbine begin sending electricity.

The construction of the three turbines has been completed, and they only need to be tested and aligned.

Also still be to completed is securing a fiber optic communications link to the Kodiak Electric Association computer system, which will direct the three turbines.

A battery backup system is also expected to be delivered in late September. The three new turbines join three that already were in place.
