Real-estate experts say U.S. home sales were down last year, and they predict them to be flat this year -- but add that sales in Alaska are much better than the rest of the country.
Housing was the hot topic at the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce’s “Make it Monday” Forum. Projections say home sales will be flat, but there is hope for condos and new construction. For sellers, the key is pricing homes to sell and being flexible.
“(In) 2010 we finished down a bit, but not like the rest of the country,” said Anchorage Board of Realtors President Michael Droege, who is also a member of the Alaska Association of Realtors’ board of directors and an RPAC trustee. “We were only down 3.6 percent, and prices on average were down 2.2, but residential prices were up about 3 and a half percent.”
