Hillshire Farms

Founded in 1934 in New London, Wis., by Austrian immigrant Friedrich Bernegger, Hillshire Farms became part of the company then known as Consolidated Foods in 1971. The smoked sausage company was Consolidated's second meat company, after Kahn's Sons, but not its last. Jimmy Dean Meats came on board in 1984.
