( UPI Telephoto, Chicago Tribune historical photo ) The famous shoebox containing $150,000 in cash found in Paul Powell's Springfield hotel room in 1970 was returned to the executors of his estate in June 1975. The box and other items that held $800,000 and records had been kept as grand jury evidence by the Sangamon County state's attorney since their discovery after the former Illinois secretary of state's death in 1970. |
