Mosque of Suleiman the Magnificent, Istanbul, Turkey

Designed by Sinan, Turkey's greatest architect, this mosque was begun in 1549 and completed in 1557. It was built at the command of Suleiman I, sultan of Turkey 1520-1566, under whose reign Vienna was unsuccessfully besieged in 1529.
