CANTWELL, Alaska (KTUU) - 7/12 Update:

Those killed in the fatal crash on the Parks Highway were identified by Alaska State Troopers on Thursday.

Tristan Carey, age 21, of Fairbanks, and Rachel Weter, age 21, of Huslia, both perished in the crash. The two were occupants in a 2013 Toyota Sienna which troopers say "crossed the centerline and collided with a 2014 Peterbilt tractor with double fuel tankers."

Why the van crossed the center of the road was not stated in the official dispatch report.

According to AST, the driver of that tractor, who was not named, was transported from the scene with "non-life threatening injuries." Troopers say the investigation into the crash is continuing.

Original Story:

Two people are dead Wednesday following a crash along the Parks Highway that initially came in as a call for a vehicle on fire.

According to the Alaska State Troopers, more calls then came in that a vehicle crash had occurred between a commercial vehicle and a minivan which collided on the highway.

"Two fatalities have been confirmed; next of kin have not been notified," AST reported, indicating that the identities of those killed would not be released yet.

The roadway is blocked at mile 210 of the Parks Highway, with traffic being re-routed by troopers.

The investigation into the crash, and how it happened, is still underway.
