ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The Alaska Railroad Corporation announced today the elimination of 49 positions. ARRC says this is all part of a major corporate restructuring effort.
In a release today, the Alaska Railroad stated that it began looking into this issue back in 2016, leaving 18 of the 49 eliminated positions vacant.
So, this means 31 people were laid off.
The ARRC says it has experienced a 44% downturn in freight tonnage, since 2008. And every year since 2015, the corporation has recorded a net loss. While the 2017 budget shows a loss of $4.9 million.
