ALCAN Extra (MP 436.5): Muncho Lake

By  |

FORT NELSON, British Columbia Muncho Lake, located at Mile 436.5, is a top destination for most Alaska Highway travelers, as it offers some of the most scenic and picturesque views along the nearly 1,400 mile journey, from Dawson Creek, British Columbia, to Delta Junction, Alaska.

Muncho Lake was originally a refueling location, during the 1942 construction of the Alaska Highway. Current day, its stark and beautiful aqua-blue water grabs your attention, not to mention all the wildlife that call the area home. From stone sheep to caribou, birds and many animals in between, taking time for some sightseeing in the area is a must, while traveling the ALCAN.

Several lodges in the area offer a wide range of accommodations, as well as campground facilities and RV parking. If you're an angler, be sure to test the waters. Whether you catch a fish or not, the phenomenal views and serene setting is worth the time.
