ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Hazardous driving conditions have been reported around the Anchorage Bowl according to police and the Alaska Department of Transportation.
The Anchorage Police Department released a warning shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday advising drivers that conditions are worsening with freezing rain and black ice.
The Seward and Glenn Hwys have both seen multiple collisions and police say drivers need to stay alert, use extreme caution and slower speeds. The warning is in place on the Seward Hwy from Rabbit Creek to Tudor Rd.
For the Glenn Hwy, the Alaska DOT has warned of hazardous conditions from 5th Ave. to Milepost 29. Poor visibility, freezing rain and ice glaze were reported on both roadways. The Alaska DOT asks that drivers stay back 200 feet from snowplows and drive with headlights on.
According to APD Dispatch, Saturday has seen multiple collisions and incidents across Anchorage:
- 22 vehicles in distress
- Five accidents with injuries
- 23 non-injury accidents
