ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The second of two Anchorage School District open houses is set to take place Wednesday evening in Anchorage.

"We're very excited," said Jim Anderson, Anchorage School District Chief Financial Officer. "It's a great opportunity."

The community budget meeting will happen in conjunction with an open house at the ASD Education Center off Northern Lights Blvd.

Attendees will receive information about ASD funding and expenses, and will also have an opportunity to ask questions and give feedback about the ASD budget and operations. It's a chance, Anderson said, for people to learn about and put their two cents in on how the district is obtaining and utilizing its money.

"The real importance is making sure the community understands how we're positioned, how we're structured, how the budgets are developed," Anderson said. "We're trying to get [public] feedback on concerns, issues, and what they want us to focus on."

Superintendent Dr. Deena Paramo will kick off Wednesday's discussion before opening it up to the floor.

"Dr. Paramo will be able to work with the community, to assure them we're focused on spending the money we receive from the state, from federal sources and the local community, in a manner that's consistent with the priorities of the public," Anderson said. "Our intent is to spend effectively and efficiently, in accordance with taxpayers' needs and desires."

Board meetings are held twice per month at the Education Center. The meeting schedule and additional information about how to get involved, including how to sign up to testify, are available here.

The School Board's budget readings and votes are scheduled to happen in February on the 6th and 21st.

Wednesday evening's open house will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.n. and will also be live streamed on the ASD website.
