WASHINGTON D.C. (KTUU) - Alaska's congressional delegation celebrated Alaska wild salmon with members of the Bristol Bay Native Corporation in Washington D.C.

Senator Lisa Murkowski posted on social media that the event was the "start of a fabulous tradition in D.C."

Murkowski was joined by Senator Dan Sullivan and Representative Don Young to congratulate Bristol Bay "on having 60 million salmon return to their fishery, and to celebrate progress we've made in supporting and protecting our wild salmon stocks."

Murkowski says she has a resolution "teed up and ready to go" that would recognize the month of September as "Alaska Wild Salmon Month."

Meanwhile, Bristol Bay Native Corporation posted photos on social media from the event and announced the congressional delegation along with the Walker-Mallott administration were presented with "Fish First" awards, that consisted of salmon skin baskets.
