SAUSALITO, California (KTUU) - A fur seal pup, recovered by the Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC) from Unalaska, has been successfully released into Northern California waters. The video, posted to social media, shows the seal diving headlong into the ocean, before swimming underwater.
The ASLC transported the seal, named Unalaska, to the the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California.
"Here at ASLC, we always strive to release animals back into the wild," said the post on social media.
Last week, the Unalaska fur seal was released alongside another seal, named Rosebud.
"Along with our government partners (we) decided that releasing him, with other seals his age, would give him the best chance to acclimate to life in the wild," according to ASLC.
Unalaska was recovered in early October. And he was initially treated with antibiotics.
