Anchorage Mayor apologizes for comments regarding crime

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz spoke with Channel 2 Wednesday, apologizing to the people of Anchorage after telling a newspaper reporter Tuesday night, "If you're not engaged in drug trafficking and not out after midnight, it's a very safe city."

Wednesday evening, Berkowitz apologized, saying he shouldn't have made the comments. "They came across as callous, and frankly, I would have liked to amplify them a lot more. There's a lot of components to making sure that Anchorage is a safer city."
