ANCHORAGE, Alaska A half-dozen people fell through a hole in the ice on the Kuskokwim River on New Year's Eve . One of them did not make it out alive

Alaska State Troopers say the hole was where the Gweek and Kuskokwim rivers meet.

Mark Kasayulie went through the ice, and KYUK reported late Monday night that his body was pulled from the Kuskokwim River around 2:00 Monday afternoon by members of Bethel Search and Rescue.

The five others were able to get out of the water and were suffering from hypothermia, according to troopers. Bethel Search and Rescue volunteers recovered the survivors from the river and brought them to Bethel.

AST then made contacted with the survivors, who stated they were traveling from Bethel to Akiachak when they went through the ice hole. They reported Kasayulie went into the water and they did not see him get out.

Troopers say alcohol was a factor in the incident.
