ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) The Alaska Baseball League is a playground for future pro-baseball players, and this week the league held its annual scouting showcase.
Putting on a show for scouts was Mat-Su Miners, Nick Brooks.
Brooks hit 13 Home Runs in the final round beating Chinooks, Preston White to win the Home Run Derby.
“I’m not used to this many people sitting on the field watching me hit BP so it kind of took me a little bit to get going, but I was able to find a nice little groove,” Brooks said.
Brooks edged out his teammate and ABL leader in home runs Blake Benefield, who has six on the season so far.
“We’ve been talking smack the past couple of days about how this would go,” Brooks said jokingly after the derby. “It’s nice to show the guys a little something.”
The Gonzaga Bulldog is in good company as former contestants also includes MLB Home Run Derby champion Aaron Judge.
