ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - One home in Chugiak is being called a "total loss" by fire officials after a fire burned through the structure early Tuesday morning.

According to Clifton Dalton, assistant chief with Chugiak Fire and Rescue, the fire reportedly began just after 4:30 a.m.

The home, a single family residence on Tulwar Drive in Chugiak, was occupied by one person when the fire began.

"She was able to get out through the back of the house, as it appears the fire started more towards the front of the house and inside the garage," Dalton said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and authorities say it will remain under investigation for now. Fire units remained on scene Tuesday to deal with overhaul and to extinguish hot spots within the property.

The sole occupant was able to escape without injuries, and no other people have reported injuries in the fire. It was declared "under control" after units on the scene had worked on the fire for roughly 50 minutes.

Dalton said that 13 units total responded to the fire after a neighbor called it in.
