Residents start street safety petition in Mountain View

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A new petition is circulating in Mountain View with the goal of improving street safety.

Kate Cannon says she's asking for signatures from other concerned residents to develop a plan for adding speed bumps and additional stop signs on Richmond Ave.

Cannon says Mountain View is an active community where kids are regularly seen playing outside.

She says there have been several close calls with cars and children on bikes or playing on sidewalks this summer, and the streets need an update.

"They planned it for when there weren't as many housing units and I think they need to change the signage to reflect all the additional families and communities that have come into Mountain View with all these amazing changes," Cannon said.

Cannon says she plans to present the petition to the Mountain View community council at its Monday meeting.
