ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) Several drivers in East Anchorage said they’ve been sitting for hours, completely stopped due to a weekend road closure and construction project.
Disgruntled drivers have reached out to Channel 2 News to report being “stuck” in the parking lots of the Tikhatnu Commons shopping area.
The Anchorage Police Department’s Public Information Officer, MJ Thim, said APD has received multiple calls to 911 from drivers.
In a tweet, APD advised drivers to expect long wait times due to the construction on the Muldoon overpass.
The Glenn Highway on-ramp from Muldoon closed Friday morning and will remain closed through the weekend.
This means drivers aren't able to head directly north into Anchorage.
Detour routes on DeBarr and Boniface have been set up for drivers traveling towards downtown Anchorage.
But the drivers we spoke with, say they’re having trouble even getting out of the parking lots at Tikhatnu.
According to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities website, flagging operations are in place throughout the project area.
KTUU left a voicemail with a public information officer Saturday night for comment on the extreme delays.
According to the DOT’s website, Neeser Construction, Inc. is listed as the contractor for the project.
When calling the listed contact number, a hotline redirects callers to an office number.
